Hoffman Estates, IL – The Chicago Mustangs (9-3) are in second place in the PASL Central Division and have another difficult weekend ahead of them.  On Saturday the Mustangs travel to Rockford for a 8:05 pm match against the Rampage (6-5) in a game that has been dubbed as the “I-90 Showdown!”

After dropping two in a row, the Rampage tallied their 6th win of the season when they beat the Illinois Piasa 8-1 on January 12th at Victory Sports Center.  Semir Mesanovic led the scoring for Rockford with 3 goals in that game.  Mesanovic has scored the most goals this season for the Rampage with 14 and is a player the Mustangs defense will key on.  The other offensive threat is newly acquired forward, Elvir Kafedzic who has 9 goals in the 4 games he has played in a Rampage uniform.  Kafedzic was involved with a mid season trade with the Illinois Piasa and has 17 goals on the season with a total of 20 points.

As usual, the Mustangs will be looking for a big game out of star midfielder, Nestor Hernandez.  #10 is responsible for 26 Mustangs goals in 12 games and had netted a goal in 11 straight games until that streak was broken in Dallas last weekend.  Hernandez looks to get a new streak started on Saturday.  Last weekend also saw the return of Omar Santillan and Miguel Vaca who the Mustangs hope can help Hernandez, Omar Tapia (14 goals, 15 assists) and Bryan Velazquez (18 goals, 1 assist) get the offense back in gear.

On Sunday the Chicago Mustangs will host the US Open Cup Arena Soccer Quarterfinal match that will see the Mustangs play the Cincinnati Saints of the PASL Premiere league.  The United States Open Cup for Arena Soccer is a cup-style tournament for all Professional Arena Soccer League and Premier Arena Soccer League teams. In 2008, the PASL announced they would hold the first tournament for indoor soccer open to all leagues and/or existing teams.  The Mustangs look to make their mark on the tournament by entering the semifinals with a win on Sunday.  The Saints are no pushovers as they are currently 6-0 in the Premiere League and making headlines by reaching the Quarterfinal.

Sunday’s game will have a $5.00 admission fee where kids under 12 years old will enter Grand Sports Arena for FREE.  VIP Tables are still available by calling the front office at 847-805-6633.
